Chat is a great UI when you know what you are doing
Chat is a great UI for people who already have mental models of what they are working on.
Experienced software developers underestimate how much advantage they have when coding with agents. You donāt really āfeelā it, but building software is easy for you.
Years of engineering have trained you to analyze and decompose problems, clarify requirements and constraints, code solutions, check if the end result is correct, notice issues and fix them if any.
But many people outside of technology have had little practice turning vague, fuzzy intentions into precise instructions. Thatās why software engineering exists in the first place. And agents still require clear prompting and the ability to check the results of their work.
But what if agents donāt remove this gap but amplify it?
It might mean we will never see everyone chatting with agents for work, just as we donāt see non-technical people writing TypeScript.
Instead, agents will disappear inside products that provide the mental model, constraints, and verification for the user. Thatās how mass adoption of agents will happen. Through SaaS.
